Known to have been bred by the Celts from as early as 1200BC the British Greyhound has evolved with Central Europe to become the fine racing beast you see today. As with all the tribes of Greyhounds loyalty and utility ensured they held a valuable place in Celtic society and they were a symbol of status and nobility. Bred to excel in the middle distances the British are adaptable, dour racers that will give you a sight from any box. Believed to be sourced from the Egyptians and Ancient Greeks, the Roman Greyhound has a distinct look and set of traits. Protected by the clergy during times of famine the Greyhound was bred for nobility due to its speed, ability to hunt, chase and catch Hares. Through the expansion of the Roman empire the dogs were taken to Britain and Ireland where they immediately became a valuable commodity due to their faithful protective nature and bravery. Christopher Columbus is believed to have taken Roman Greyhounds and introduced them to the Americas. The Roman Alphadogs are specialists. Trainers worth their salt will love working with this breed.
